Recent re-signings give Eagles good outlook for future

The Eagles made the right decisions this past week in locking up some players for the future. It wasn’t a guarantee that the Eagles would be able to re-sign both Riley Cooper and Jeremy Maclin because of cap space, but they managed to do it. In addition, the Eagles locked up C Jason Kelce and T Jason Peters to long-term deals to keep their stud offensive line in Philadelphia. These moves are the first of … Continue reading →

Eagles 2014 free agents: who should stay, who should go (part 2)

S Colt Anderson I’ve liked Anderson’s work as a fill-in safety and on special teams, but he’s been identified as part of the terrible safety group that the Eagles have and has a chance of being let go too. He also made $1 million last year, which is way more than his actual value. And despite being the special teams captain, he only had 11 tackles on the year; that can easily be replaced. Anderson … Continue reading →

Eagles 2014 free agents: who should stay, who should go (part 1)

After a very successful year in comparison to what was expected, the Eagles enter the offseason with very few key pieces of their team as free agents. They actually have 10 people whose contracts are set to expire, but only a couple of them are people who the Eagles truly need to keep. The Eagles have one of the largest space in terms of cap in the NFL, so they should be able to pay … Continue reading →

Philadelphia Eagles: review of 2013 rookies (part 2)

Rookie Analysis, Part 2 DE Joe Kruger After not having a 6th round pick, the Eagles took King with the first of their three 7th round picks. He was supposed to be a big defensive end that had a fair chance of making the roster, but probably wouldn’t play much. He’s actually the younger brother of Paul Kruger, the OLB for the Browns who won a Super Bowl with the Ravens the year before. But … Continue reading →

Philadelphia Eagles: review of 2013 rookies (part 1)

The Andy Reid era was plagued with tons of head-scratching picks, especially in the first round. Fans booed his selections from the beginning (Donovan McNabb) and grew weary of his attraction to drafting offensive and defensive lineman in the first round. Well, Chip Kelly didn’t move away from the philosophy of drafting a lineman in the first round, but in this case, it actually turned out to be a success. Many of the Eagles’ top … Continue reading →

2014 preview: Philadelphia Eagles schedule

Yes, it does seem a little premature to already be talking about the Eagles’ schedule for 2014, but their postseason is over and their offseason has begun. They are already in full offseason mode, cleaning out lockers and even signing players to “future” contracts. There are also rumors that the re-signing of WR Jeremy Maclin is imminent, who is definitely the biggest name on their list of upcoming free agents. But fast-forwarding past all the … Continue reading →

2013: A season in review: the Philadelphia Eagles (part 3)

Defensively, they left a lot to be desired, but that was expected with such a big switch from 4-3 to 3-4. Billy Davis did his best with what he had and the defense finished 10th in run defense. Inside LBs DeMeco Ryans and Mychal Kendricks both had over 100 tackles, picking up 127 and 106 respectively. There was no real dominator when it came to the pass rush, but OLB Trent Cole led the team … Continue reading →

2013: A season in review: the Philadelphia Eagles (part 2)

Probably the biggest storyline of the season was the “QB controversy” in the middle of the season. But, by the end of the season, I would actually re-label it the “QB Transition” as the Eagles moved on from Michael Vick to Nick Foles as the franchise QB. Vick started 6 games of the season and technically finished with a 2-4 record, but he left both of the games against the Giants early on and the … Continue reading →

2013: A season in review: the Philadelphia Eagles (part 1)

I forget exactly, but I know that I didn’t expect the Eagles to get any more than 4 or 5 wins. In fact, I said they could be even worse than that depending on how many games Michael Vick started for them. Then something happened…I don’t know what it was, but the genius of Chip Kelly started to take effect on his players and they instantly clicked. They had arguably their best offensive season in … Continue reading →

Offense stalls, Eagles exit the playoffs early

In heartbreaking fashion, the Eagles lost to the Saints yesterday 26-24 and were eliminated in the Wild Card round of the playoffs. While it was an early exit, there is nothing to be ashamed of this season. The fact that the Eagles got this far is saying a lot, but it can’t mask the fact that they could’ve won this game and be playing another week. The offense, which was 2nd best in the league … Continue reading →
