It wasn’t a groundbreaking or jaw-dropping first day of free agency, but sometimes that’s a good thing. The Eagles went into the day with a plan, and they came out of it with some solid moves. The most noteworthy was the signing of former Saints S Malcolm Jenkins, which fills a massive hole at the safety position. They also decided to re-sign P Donnie Jones and release S Patrick Chung, moves that actually came before … Continue reading
It’s been the talk for the past couple months that the Eagles need a starting-caliber safety, and this free agency could be the perfect time to fill that need. Whether they’re going to go after a top guy at the position such as Jairus Byrd or T.J. Ward remains to be 100% confirmed, but they have said that they don’t want to spend a ton at the position, which theoretically rules out those two guys. … Continue reading
Eagles GM Howie Roseman has been quite busy this offseason, and free agency hasn’t even begun. With just a week now to go until free agents officially hit the market, he’s been able to lock up a lot of their important players. This is key because it prevents these players from even having an opportunity to get offers from other teams. DE Cedric Thornton was a big re-signing because of how well he played, and … Continue reading
The Eagles have made it a point recently to identify who on their roster is sticking around and who is no longer in their plans for the future. While they’ve mainly been focusing on the first of those, the moves they make hint at who they’re no longer interested in keeping around, whether it be for salary issues or because they don’t fit into the system. Now that they’ve re-signed Jeremy Maclin, Riley Cooper, Jason … Continue reading
The Eagles made the right decisions this past week in locking up some players for the future. It wasn’t a guarantee that the Eagles would be able to re-sign both Riley Cooper and Jeremy Maclin because of cap space, but they managed to do it. In addition, the Eagles locked up C Jason Kelce and T Jason Peters to long-term deals to keep their stud offensive line in Philadelphia. These moves are the first of … Continue reading
S Colt Anderson I’ve liked Anderson’s work as a fill-in safety and on special teams, but he’s been identified as part of the terrible safety group that the Eagles have and has a chance of being let go too. He also made $1 million last year, which is way more than his actual value. And despite being the special teams captain, he only had 11 tackles on the year; that can easily be replaced. Anderson … Continue reading
After a very successful year in comparison to what was expected, the Eagles enter the offseason with very few key pieces of their team as free agents. They actually have 10 people whose contracts are set to expire, but only a couple of them are people who the Eagles truly need to keep. The Eagles have one of the largest space in terms of cap in the NFL, so they should be able to pay … Continue reading
At this point in the offseason, I’m having trouble identifying a guy as the guaranteed starting quarterback for the Eagles come the regular season. While this is common among many teams, there’s a problem with the reason why there’s a QB controversy. While some teams have to deal with two or three really good players fighting for that one starting position, I don’t see one specific guy that would be a good option to start … Continue reading
