Super Bowl XLVIII prediction: Broncos vs. Seahawks

Ah, where to begin. The Super Bowl is the culmination of 20 weeks of NFL football, some teams playing only 16, but the lucky ones playing in more. The Denver Broncos and the Seattle Seahawks are the last two standing, and I can’t say I’m too surprised by this one. While it’s actually rare to have both #1 seeds in the Super Bowl, these two teams were just too dominant not to keep winning. This … Continue reading →

Foles wins Pro Bowl MVP, but not enough to lead team to win

About two hours before the game was supposed to start, I had absolutely no intention of watching any of it. Then my inner football-loving self told me “hey, it’s a football game. How bad could it be?” Even Al Michaels admitted last night on live TV how bad last year’s game was, and I didn’t think the rule changes would make this year’s any better. Hall of Famer captains? Really? Well, it somehow avoided disaster … Continue reading →

Philadelphia Eagles: review of 2013 rookies (part 2)

Rookie Analysis, Part 2 DE Joe Kruger After not having a 6th round pick, the Eagles took King with the first of their three 7th round picks. He was supposed to be a big defensive end that had a fair chance of making the roster, but probably wouldn’t play much. He’s actually the younger brother of Paul Kruger, the OLB for the Browns who won a Super Bowl with the Ravens the year before. But … Continue reading →

Philadelphia Eagles: review of 2013 rookies (part 1)

The Andy Reid era was plagued with tons of head-scratching picks, especially in the first round. Fans booed his selections from the beginning (Donovan McNabb) and grew weary of his attraction to drafting offensive and defensive lineman in the first round. Well, Chip Kelly didn’t move away from the philosophy of drafting a lineman in the first round, but in this case, it actually turned out to be a success. Many of the Eagles’ top … Continue reading →

2014 NFL Playoff predictions: Divisional Championship Round

After a wonderful week of games in the Wild Card Round, this round should bring equally exciting games with no matchup that should be a mismatch. Despite some serious differences in seeding, all teams have shed their seeds and proved that anything can happen once the playoffs roll around. Even though the home teams this week have a combined record of 29-3 at home, 3 of 4 of the home teams lost last round. There … Continue reading →

2014 preview: Philadelphia Eagles schedule

Yes, it does seem a little premature to already be talking about the Eagles’ schedule for 2014, but their postseason is over and their offseason has begun. They are already in full offseason mode, cleaning out lockers and even signing players to “future” contracts. There are also rumors that the re-signing of WR Jeremy Maclin is imminent, who is definitely the biggest name on their list of upcoming free agents. But fast-forwarding past all the … Continue reading →

2013: A season in review: the Philadelphia Eagles (part 3)

Defensively, they left a lot to be desired, but that was expected with such a big switch from 4-3 to 3-4. Billy Davis did his best with what he had and the defense finished 10th in run defense. Inside LBs DeMeco Ryans and Mychal Kendricks both had over 100 tackles, picking up 127 and 106 respectively. There was no real dominator when it came to the pass rush, but OLB Trent Cole led the team … Continue reading →

2013: A season in review: the Philadelphia Eagles (part 2)

Probably the biggest storyline of the season was the “QB controversy” in the middle of the season. But, by the end of the season, I would actually re-label it the “QB Transition” as the Eagles moved on from Michael Vick to Nick Foles as the franchise QB. Vick started 6 games of the season and technically finished with a 2-4 record, but he left both of the games against the Giants early on and the … Continue reading →

2013: A season in review: the Philadelphia Eagles (part 1)

I forget exactly, but I know that I didn’t expect the Eagles to get any more than 4 or 5 wins. In fact, I said they could be even worse than that depending on how many games Michael Vick started for them. Then something happened…I don’t know what it was, but the genius of Chip Kelly started to take effect on his players and they instantly clicked. They had arguably their best offensive season in … Continue reading →

2014 NFL Playoff results: Wild Card Round

This weekend produced an excellent group of NFL games that proved just how exciting playoff football can be. We saw a 28 point comeback, two game-winning FGs, and a “weak” 6th seed dismantle an AFC favorite. The lower seed won 3 of the 4 games, which just further proves how unimportant seeding and records become when the playoffs come. Records were being broken left and right and it created a wonderful four games of football. … Continue reading →
