In the past few days, I ranked the first, second and third round picks of the Andy Reid era. In this piece, I’ll be taking a look at the best value picks of this time period. I only took players who were selected between the fourth and seventh round, and I’m only looking at the top 10 guys since it would make little sense to highlight some of the picks that didn’t work out considering … Continue reading
After looking back and analyzing the first and second round picks during all the Eagles drafts between 1999-2012, I now move on to the third round picks. I won’t be looking at any other individual round, as there are too many picks between rounds 4-7. In review, the first round picks during this time period were actually better than I had remembered, but the second round picks were pretty bad overall. Here are some notes … Continue reading
Yesterday I ranked the Eagles’ first round draft picks from the Andy Reid era, which was actually a better group than I had always thought. Now I’ll look at the second round picks, which is where Reid really struggled the most and held back their growth as a franchise. Here are some quick stats: Important Notes -Total second round picks: 19 (8 offense, 11 defense) -Years without a second round pick: 2004 -Years with multiple second round picks: 6 … Continue reading
Now that I’ve analyzed each of the Andy Reid era drafts individually, I’m going to look at them more holistically and see how he did in specific areas. Today, I’ll be looking at his successes and failures with his first round picks. Surprisingly, he was pretty good with top picks, although expectedly, there were some clunkers. Here are some quick stats on his first round selections when he was a coach, from 1999-2012: Important Notes … Continue reading
This will be the final draft I’ll analyze as a part of this series. The 1999 draft was Andy Reid‘s first, at at the time, a very controversial one. The Eagles had a great pick in the draft, but selected Donovan McNabb instead of Ricky Williams, which was criticized heavily by fans at the time. Of course, that opinion changed over time, but it was quite a way to start a career as a head … Continue reading
The 2001 draft was another bad one, although it was the first one I’ve analyzed in which Andy Reid wasn’t given full control over the team, so he doesn’t deserve all of the blame. The same case will be for this draft, although he still deserves some of the blame, as he clearly doesn’t deserve much credit for his drafting over the years anyway. It’s the second to last draft I’ll be analyzing. Here’s some … Continue reading
The 2002 was definitely a success for the Eagles, producing four very good players that lasted on the team more than just a couple years. It was a bit surprising to see them go defensive back with their first three picks, but luckily, all three of them worked out and became regular starters at some point in their careers. Here are some notes on the 2001 draft, which was definitely a step back down in … Continue reading
After a slew of bad drafts by Andy Reid, including what was probably his worst one in 2003, the 2002 draft is a surprisingly good one, and could’ve been even better if they kept everyone on the roster. Here are some notes on it: Important notes Total picks: 8 (3 offense, 5 defense) Notable picks: Lito Sheppard, Sheldon Brown, Brian Westbrook 1. CB Lito Sheppard Sheppard was the first of a string of defensive backs taken in … Continue reading
I’ve now entered drafts that are more than a decade old, but I will continue to analyze old drafts until the Andy Reid era is over. After the 2004 draft featured Shawn Andrews, no other player really did anything, and it was thus a mostly throwaway draft. I now move to the 2003 draft, which is definitely right back up there with the worst drafts in the Reid era. Here are some quick stats: Important … Continue reading
Surprisingly, the 2005 draft was actually a pretty good one, featuring three different players who lasted a long time on the team, including Trent Cole, who is one of the best defensive players the Eagles have drafted in the past couple decades. I now move on to the 2004 draft, which was back to the usual bad draft from Andy Reid. Important notes Total picks: 10 (7 offense, 3 defense) Notable picks: Shawn Andrews, Matt Ware 1. … Continue reading
